The drying process is very important. 

During the drying process, there is no soap to lubricate your paintwork from fine particles. It's just the towel, water and your paintwork.

There is a high risk during the drying process of rubbing fine particles into your paintwork which creates micro scratches and swirl marks.

You can prevent micro scratches and swirl marks by using a quality, soft microfibre drying towel.
